John Deere Lawnmowers

Deere & Company, founded in 1837 (collectively called John Deere), started from being a man blacksmith shop and has today grown into a worldwide business corporation. John Deeres business has been organized into four segments- agricultural equipment, commercial and consumer equipment, construction and forestry and credit. Here were going to discuss the John Deere lawn mower. Heavy-duty rotary cutters are manufactured under their agricultural equipment division but the standard lawn mower comes under consumer equipment.

John Deere manufactures the walk behind mowers, the ride on mowers and the utility tractors, which can also be used as a mower for a larger area lawn with the attachments provided.

The ride on mowers has five basic models. The EZ track series has 3 models. The USP of these mowers is that they are zero turn machines and can mow in 360 degrees. Then there are the 100 series that in turn have 6 home lawn mowers under them. All of these have 18.5 hp to 25 hp John Deere engines by Briggs and Stratton. An adjustable seat with conveniently located power brakes make up for easy cutting.

The Select series X300 of john Deere consists of are 10 different models. These are advised for lawns up to 3.5 acres in size. Series X300 are versatile machines can do other yard work with easy attachments.

The select series X 500 multi terrain tractors are recommended for more than 5 acres of lawn space. There are five models to choose from in this segment. The wide and stable tractor stance and heavy-duty tires make it an all terrain mower with very good maneuverability.

The last one of the home ride on machines is the Select series X 750 multi use for 7 acres lawn size. These four-wheel drive mowers have 10 models on offer. The front quick hitch is adaptable for attaching snow blowers, brooms and blades making this a multi purpose machine.

John Deere also manufactures walk behind mowers, which can be either steel deck mowers or the aluminium decked. The former features three models and is ideally suited for small lawns, which require quality plus economical cutting. The aluminium deck mowers have two models and feature state of the art 4- cycle engines. These are self propelled, user friendly, lightweight and easy to store, yet house power packed engines.

John Deere offers at home service on almost all its products.

I was given an ST 38 lawnmower with a hydro transmission. The tractor starts, but the axles won't move. I already moved the lever with the plunger that goes into the transmission, and I also removed the rear wheel, to make sure the key that attaches the shaft to the wheel is still in it.

The tractor has not been used for about 10 years. Is is possible that the transmission has no fluid? If so, how do I check that and add some, if necessary?

Also, I removed the mower deck before starting the tractor. Is there a lockout mechanism that would prevent the rear wheels from turning when you remove the deck and don't put another accessory on the mower?

Thanks,

Dan
